The Director of Legal Services of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), A.K. Alilu, has charged personnel of the Delta State Command to uphold professionalism and ensure strict compliance with the law in the discharge of their duties.Alilu gave the charge during a working visit to the Delta State Command on October 21, 2026, where he engaged Heads of Departments and Units, Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Tactical Commanders and Beat Supervisors on global best practices and the importance of lawful conduct in security operations. He explained that the visit was aimed at strengthening personnel’s understanding of the legal framework governing their responsibilities, particularly in complaints management, arrests, investigations, detention, evidence gathering and prosecution.

The Director emphasised the need for strict adherence to due process, noting that all operational activities must be conducted within the confines of the law. He warned officers against actions that could undermine public confidence, expose them to legal consequences or damage the reputation of the Corps.Drawing from practical experiences, Alilu highlighted the appropriate procedures for effecting arrests, conducting investigations, handling suspects and presenting evidence in accordance with relevant laws. He urged personnel to understand the limits of their legal powers and exercise their authority responsibly.

The engagement also deepened their understanding of the legal implications of their actions and the need to maintain professional standards while carrying out their assignments. The Delta State Commandant, Chinedu F. Igbo, welcomed the Director of Legal Services and expressed appreciation for the engagement, describing it as timely and beneficial to the Command.

He noted that the session would equip personnel with the requisite legal knowledge to perform their duties more effectively, responsibly and professionally.Igbo also expressed gratitude to the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, for his continued commitment to the growth, development and operational effectiveness of the Corps.
