His death marks the loss of a former head of one of Nigeria’s foremost agencies responsible for road safety management, traffic regulation and the prevention of road crashes.

His professional journey was closely associated with the Federal Road Safety Corps, which he joined in 1988 and served in various capacities before rising to the highest leadership position in the organisation.

His long years in the service exposed him to several aspects of road safety administration, including operational management, financial administration, institutional coordination and the enforcement of traffic regulations. Through successive appointments, he built a career that culminated in his emergence as the head of the corps.Biu’s appointment as Acting Corps Marshal came in July 2022 following the retirement of his predecessor, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi.

He subsequently received presidential approval for appointment as the substantive Corps Marshal in January 2023 under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Before his elevation, Biu served as Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Finance and Accounts at the FRSC national headquarters in Abuja. The position placed him at the centre of efforts to address the persistent challenges of reckless driving, speeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading and other violations contributing to road crashes across Nigeria. His years of service reflected a career that progressed from the operational and administrative structures of the FRSC to the highest level of command.

His experience in finance and accounts also gave him an understanding of the institutional and resource requirements involved in managing a nationwide road safety organisation.Biu’s death is expected to attract condolences from members of the FRSC community, former colleagues, public officials and others who worked with him during his years in public service.

As preparations for his burial proceed, tributes are expected to focus on his professional journey, his leadership of the FRSC and his contribution to the development of road safety administration in Nigeria.
