Niger NSCDC Gets New Commandant as Kabara Assumes Office, Expresses Sympathy Over Custody Deaths

The newly redeployed State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command, Commandant Abdulhamid Salisu Kabara, has formally assumed leadership of the Command, taking over from Commandant Suberu Siyaka Aniviye.Commandant Kabara officially took over the affairs of the Command on September 18, 2026, at a critical period following the recent deaths of some individuals arrested in connection with suspected illegal mining activities in the state.Speaking shortly after assuming office, the new Commandant expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and all those affected by the unfortunate incident.He noted that while the Corps remains committed to its statutory responsibilities of arrest, investigation, law enforcement and the fight against illegal mining, the protection of human life must remain a top priority.Commandant Kabara stressed that every life is valuable and that the painful incident serves as a reminder of the need for security agencies to balance law enforcement duties with respect for human dignity and the welfare of persons in custody.“Beyond arrests, investigations, enforcement and the fight against illegal mining, we must remember one fundamental truth: every human life matters.
