The Delta State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Chinedu F. Igbo, has joined the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, and other relevant officials to inspect ongoing road construction works along the Asaba-Onitsha axis of the Niger Bridge. The inspection, conducted on November 3, 2026, was aimed at identifying critical bottlenecks responsible for traffic congestion and exploring immediate measures to improve vehicular movement along the busy corridor.

The Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, psc, mnips, led the inspection team, which included NSCDC Commandant Chinedu Igbo, FRSC Corps Commander Charles E. Edem, representatives of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA) and road construction contractors.

During the exercise, the officials assessed the construction sites and identified areas requiring urgent attention to minimise disruptions and ease the movement of motorists and commuters. The inspection also facilitated immediate interventions to reduce congestion, remove obstructions and improve traffic flow around the Niger Bridge axis. The collaborative exercise underscored the importance of inter-agency cooperation in addressing traffic challenges, particularly along strategic transport corridors that experience increased vehicular movement during the festive season. It also provided an opportunity for the participating agencies to assess operational requirements and strengthen their preparedness for the proposed end-of-year joint task force on traffic management.

The task force is expected to play a critical role in managing traffic during the forthcoming Yuletide celebrations and the 2027 general elections.Commandant Igbo and other service commanders assured commuters and residents of Delta State of their commitment to ensuring smoother traffic movement before, during and after the ember months. They emphasised that sustained collaboration among security agencies, traffic management officials and construction contractors would be essential to preventing avoidable congestion and ensuring safer journeys along the Niger Bridge corridor.
