The Honourable  Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has called on the newly promoted Senior management staff officers in the four paramilitary agencies of the Interior Ministry to step up their efficiency and innovative skills to build a formidable internal security system in the nation. 

Dr Tunji-Ojo made this call at the Headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Abuja, where Deputy Comptroller Generals and Deputy Commandant Generals of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Fire Service and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were decorated to their new rank 

The Minister who assured the services of the federal government support through the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emphasized that promotion in the agencies is carried out based on Merit, Seniority, Availability of Vacancy and Performance evaluation. 

He reiterated that the era of career stagnation is gone lamenting the situation where officers had suffered in the past as a result of lack of connection or godfather; He hinted that the present government in its manner of motivating workers has introduced incentives for serving personnel as well as retirement benefits.

According to him, personnel of the paramilitary agencies are making tireless efforts towards the stability of the country hence they deserve incentives from the present administration. 

He went ahead to specifically commend the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for effectively playing its role in the Protection of the Nation’s Critical National Assets and Infrastructure and other core mandates stating the Corps is becoming more robust, efficient and professional in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities. 

Earlier in his remarks the Secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Service Board (CDCFIB), CG Ahmed Ja’afaru (Rtd), said the board has secured its independence from the Office of the Head of Service and attributed the feat recorded to the dynamic leadership of the Board Chairman who doubles as the Minister of Interior. 

The Board Secretary explained that since the Board started functioning independently it has successfully carried out the 2023 promotion exercise without hitch; he further expressed assurance of replicating the same in the year 2024 noting that such feat is unprecedented.

He disclosed that 79 Senior Officers participated in the promotion exercise that culminated in the decoration of the Deputy Controllers General, Deputy Comptrollers General and Deputy Commandants General where  7 Senior management officers were elevated in NIS, 3 from  NSCDC, one from FFS and 3 were promoted from the NCoS.

In appreciation on behalf of all the newly promoted officers; Deputy Comptroller General of Immigration, DCGI George Chamlong Didel, thanked Mr President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the great honour to serve the nation pledging their continuous loyalty to the country and their various services to justify the confidence reposed in them.

In the same vein the NSCDC Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi tasked the 3 newly decorated Deputy Commandants General in his service to justify their promotions by mentoring their subordinates to serve with a sense of purpose, undiluted loyalty and dedication to duty. 

The CG who stated this in his Conference Room shortly before the DCGs took Oath of office at the NSCDC Headquarters, Abuja charged them to hold their new positions prestigiously and accord it the needed respect through their official and individual conducts.

The Director of Legal Services, Barr Umar Aliyu Mohammed administered the Oath of Office on the three newly promoted management officers:  DCG Pedro Awili Ideba, DCG Mohammed Lawal Haruna fdc and DCG Philip Ayuba fcai.

Speaking after the Oath taking, DCG Pedro on behalf of his colleagues expressed so much joy and pledged support to the CG and other members of the top management of the Corps to consolidate on the outstanding reforms put in place by the Commandant General.
