A police officer and three residents have been killed following a fresh attack by suspected Lakurawa militants on Girkau community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The attack, which also left several people injured, was disclosed on Tuesday by security analyst Bakatsine in a post shared on X.

According to the report, the slain police officer was identified as Inspector Hussaini Manyu. Three civilians were also reportedly killed during the assault, including an elderly man, Bala Wakili, a young herder, and a farmer.

Bakatsine stated that the young herder was allegedly killed after refusing to surrender his cattle to the attackers, while the farmer was shot while working on his farmland.

The assailants were also said to have set ablaze a police Hilux patrol vehicle and another vehicle belonging to the Community Guard before fleeing the area.

In addition to the killings, the attackers reportedly rustled an unspecified number of cattle during the raid, further compounding losses suffered by residents of the community.

The report also alleged that a married woman was assaulted after resisting an attempted sexual attack by the gunmen.

The latest incident has heightened concerns over the growing activities of armed groups in parts of Sokoto State, where rural communities have continued to face attacks, cattle rustling and other violent crimes.

Reacting to the development, Bakatsine called for urgent intervention to protect vulnerable communities from recurring attacks.

“How many more warnings must become death notices before vulnerable communities receive the protection they deserve?” he wrote.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
