The Ministry of Defence has refuted reports circulating on social media alleging that the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, attempted to resign from the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the claim as baseless and misleading.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, dismissed the report as a fabrication designed to misinform the public and create unnecessary speculation about the minister’s position in government.

She stressed that there was no truth whatsoever in the resignation rumour, insisting that the minister remains fully engaged in the discharge of his official duties.

According to Katung-Babatunde, the report was “malicious, fabricated and entirely false,” adding that those behind it were seeking to spread misinformation and undermine public confidence.

“We wish to state unequivocally and in the strongest possible terms that these rumours are absolute falsehoods borne out of complete mischief,” she said.

The media aide reaffirmed that the minister has not contemplated resigning and continues to enjoy the confidence of the President while carrying out his responsibilities at the Ministry of Defence.

She noted that the minister remains focused on advancing the Federal Government’s defence and security objectives, particularly efforts aimed at strengthening the country’s security architecture.

Katung-Babatunde urged members of the public to disregard the report and rely on official channels for accurate information concerning government activities and appointments.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to transparency and assured Nigerians that the minister remains dedicated to supporting ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing security across the country.
