Fake Agency Scandal: Time for a Forensic Audit of Tinubu’s Office, Residence and Inner Circle

The alleged discovery of a fake government agency operating under the guise of presidential authority has exposed potential weaknesses in oversight and verification mechanisms within Nigeria’s highest office. The controversy has raised legitimate concerns about how such an entity allegedly acquired credibility and operated without early detection.A forensic investigation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s office, official residence, and immediate staff should therefore be considered a matter of public interest. Such an exercise would not imply wrongdoing by the President or his aides. Rather, it would seek to identify possible administrative loopholes, security lapses, or procedural failures that may have enabled the alleged fraud.Particular attention should be given to verifying the authenticity, legality, and validity of the appointments, responsibilities, and mandates of all immediate presidential aides and staff. In light of the fake agency scandal, it is necessary to establish that every individual exercising authority around the Presidency holds a lawful appointment and operates within clearly defined responsibilities. The investigation should also determine whether documents bearing presidential authority were properly vetted and whether appointments, endorsements, correspondence, and official interactions linked to the disputed agency passed through established channels without adequate scrutiny.Questions surrounding the alleged use of official insignia, appointment letters, and claims of presidential backing make such a review even more important. If a fictitious entity could allegedly project legitimacy and attract engagement from stakeholders, investigators must establish how this occurred and why existing safeguards failed to detect it sooner. The Presidency is the most important institution in Nigeria’s governance structure, and any vulnerability within it has implications for national security, public trust, and the credibility of government. A forensic review should therefore examine access control procedures, internal communication systems, and the effectiveness of intelligence and security mechanisms responsible for protecting the Presidency.Such an investigation would help separate facts from speculation, strengthen accountability, and restore public confidence. More importantly, it would confirm the legitimacy of appointments, validate operational mandates, and reinforce the integrity of the Presidency by ensuring that every office and official operating around the President is backed by proper legal and administrative authority.
