Mining Marshals Boss, ACC John Attah Onoja, Receives Prestigious PSM 2026 Excellence Award

The Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals, Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) John Attah Onoja, has been honoured with the prestigious People’s Security Monitor (PSM) 2026 National Resource Protection Excellence Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the protection of Nigeria’s solid mineral resources and the fight against illegal mining.

The award was presented to ACC Onoja in his office by the Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief of People’s Security Monitor, who commended the Mining Marshals Commander for his exceptional leadership and commitment to safeguarding the nation’s mineral assets. The presentation ceremony was attended by senior officers of the Mining Marshals and members of the PSM management team.

Speaking during the presentation, the CEO of People’s Security Monitor stated that ACC Onoja was selected for the award following an assessment of the operational achievements of the Mining Marshals, particularly their sustained efforts in combating illegal mining activities, enforcing mining regulations, and supporting government initiatives aimed at sanitising the solid minerals sector.

Under ACC Onoja’s leadership, the Mining Marshals have recorded significant successes in operations across various states, leading to the arrest of illegal mining operators, disruption of unlawful mining activities, and protection of critical mining sites. The unit has also strengthened collaboration with relevant government agencies and stakeholders in the mining industry to promote lawful and sustainable mineral exploitation.

Responding to the honour, ACC Onoja expressed appreciation to the management of People’s Security Monitor for the recognition. He dedicated the award to the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Professor. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, as well as officers and men of the Mining Marshals whose dedication and professionalism continue to drive the unit’s successes across the country.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Mining Marshals to intensifying efforts against illegal mining and ensuring the protection of Nigeria’s mineral resources. According to him, the award would serve as additional motivation for the unit to remain focused on its mandate of supporting economic security and protecting the nation’s strategic assets for sustainable national development.
