NSCDC’s People-Centred Security Strategy Wins International Commendation at UK–Nigeria Defence Dialogue

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, has received widespread commendation for the Corps’ people-centred approach to security, which prioritises community engagement, human rights protection, gender inclusion, and the safeguarding of critical national assets and infrastructure.

Speaking at the Fourth Nigeria–United Kingdom Security and Defence Partnership Dialogue held at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Professor Audi highlighted the strategic contributions of the NSCDC to national security, democratic governance, and sustainable development in Nigeria.

Addressing local and international stakeholders, the NSCDC Commandant General outlined the Corps’ efforts in fostering strong community relations and ensuring respect for human rights in the discharge of its statutory and operational responsibilities. He noted that these principles remain central to the Corps’ mission of promoting public safety and strengthening citizens’ confidence in security institutions.

Professor Audi also showcased the Corps’ commitment to gender inclusion and empowerment through the establishment of a Female Squad and the implementation of a comprehensive Gender Policy designed to promote equity, inclusiveness, and equal opportunities within the service.

On electoral security, the NSCDC boss underscored the Corps’ critical role in protecting national assets and infrastructure, describing them as indispensable to economic growth, public welfare, and national stability. He further highlighted the Corps’ support in securing electoral processes, particularly during recent off-cycle governorship elections, where its personnel contributed significantly to ensuring peaceful, credible, and hitch-free polls.

The presentation drew positive reactions from members of the international community, development partners, and key government officials. Among those who commended the Corps’ efforts were the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, who acknowledged the NSCDC’s contributions to national security, social inclusion, and democratic consolidation.
