The Headquarters, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Gabriel Okoye, the Commanding Officer of 20 Model Battalion, who died on 13 June 2026.
The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, together with officers and soldiers of the Brigade, extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, personnel of 20 Model Battalion, colleagues, friends, and associates of the late officer during this period of mourning.
Lieutenant Colonel Okoye was a disciplined and committed officer who served the Nigerian Army and the nation with distinction. Throughout his career, he demonstrated professionalism, courage, and exceptional leadership qualities. His tenure as Commanding Officer of 20 Model Battalion was marked by dedication to duty and notable contributions to operational effectiveness and the attainment of the Brigade’s security responsibilities.
He was widely respected for his devotion to his troops, steadfast commitment to national service, and unwavering resolve in the defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty. His passing represents a significant loss to the Nigerian Army, his unit, and the nation at large.
While the Brigade mourns this painful loss, it remains firmly committed to its constitutional mandate of safeguarding lives and property, maintaining peace and security, and defending the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
