DELTA POLICE COMMISSIONER ORDERS ENHANCED SECURITY FOR SCHOOLS, WORSHIP CENTRES AND CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES, EMPHASISES DISCIPLINE AND PROFESSIONALISM

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, convened a strategic meeting with senior officers of the Command to address critical issues relating to security, discipline, and professional conduct within the Force.
The meeting was attended by members of the Command Management Team, Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Heads of Departments. During the session, the Commissioner of Police stressed the importance of strict adherence to the rules, regulations, and ethical standards guiding the conduct of police officers.
CP Oyeniyi warned that professional misconduct by any officer would not be tolerated under any circumstance, adding that supervising officers would be held vicariously liable for acts of indiscipline committed by personnel under their command.
The Commissioner also expressed concern over the inadequate level of community engagement by some DPOs and directed all Divisional Police Officers to strengthen collaboration with critical stakeholders within their respective areas of responsibility. He urged them to sensitise residents on the need to remain security-conscious and actively support policing efforts in their communities.
Addressing the growing incidence of murder cases in parts of the state, the CP charged DPOs to intensify public enlightenment campaigns aimed at discouraging the escalation of disputes and conflicts that could result in violence, loss of life, or other criminal acts.
As part of measures to enhance public safety, CP Oyeniyi directed all Area Commanders and DPOs to identify schools, churches, mosques, and correctional centres within their jurisdictions and ensure adequate security coverage for these critical facilities. He further instructed officers to conduct regular visits and security assessments to forestall potential threats.
The Commissioner also reiterated the importance of proper appearance and discipline among personnel. He directed all officers of the Command to maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times and ensure that their official name tags are visibly displayed while on duty.
According to the CP, any officer found without a name tag on the prescribed police uniform or approved tactical vest will face appropriate disciplinary measures, while the supervising officer will equally be held accountable.
The Delta State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents through professionalism, discipline, and community-oriented policing.
