Gunmen Invade Ogbomoso Schools, Kill Teacher, Abduct Pupils


Two schools in Ahoro-Esinle community, Oriire Local Government Area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, came under attack by suspected gunmen, resulting in the death of a teacher and the abduction of several pupils.
The affected schools, LA School and Community Grammar School, were reportedly invaded during school hours, throwing the community into panic as pupils and teachers fled for safety.
The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) confirmed the incident, describing it as tragic and unfortunate. The Board disclosed that security operatives had been deployed to the area to rescue the abducted pupils and restore normalcy.
Executive Chairman of OYOSUBEB, Dr Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, said tactical teams under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police had commenced operations in the area, assuring residents that efforts were ongoing to secure the safe return of the victims.
Following the attack, authorities directed the temporary closure of schools in neighbouring local government areas, including Surulere, Oyo East, Oriire and Olorunsogo, as a precautionary measure.
The exact number of abducted pupils was yet to be officially confirmed as of the time of filing this report, while investigations into the attack continue.
Residents of the community have called for increased security presence to prevent further attacks on schools and other public institutions.
