The Mining Marshals have intensified coordinated operations with the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development in a sustained effort to curb illegal mining, enhance regulatory compliance, and strengthen oversight within Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.

Recent field operations and fact finding missions conducted across selected mining sites in Nasarawa and Plateau States focused on intelligence gathering, compliance verification, and investigations into suspected cases of unlawful mining activities.

The exercises were carried out under the strategic supervision of the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Henry Dele Alake. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Faruk Yusuf Yabo, led operational engagements alongside senior officials from the Mines Inspectorate, Legal Services, and Special Duties departments, as well as representatives of the Mining Cadastre Office. The Commander of the Mining Marshals, Attah John Onoja, also directed field operatives during enforcement and assessment activities.

The Mining Marshals expressed appreciation for the continued support of the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, noting that his leadership has strengthened the operational capacity of the unit and improved enforcement outcomes across multiple states. The unit also acknowledged the reform oriented leadership of the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, particularly his commitment to transparency, accountability, and improved investor confidence in the sector.

The engagements further reinforced interagency collaboration between the Ministry, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and host mining communities. They also align with the Federal Government’s broader objective of sanitising the mining industry, improving regulatory oversight, and safeguarding Nigeria’s mineral resources for sustainable national development.
