By Rahmon Sanusi, Abuja

The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Adeyemi Olumode, is set to deliver a keynote address on the significance of fire service to national security at the 2026 People’s Security Monitor Annual Security Conference and the public presentation of the book titled “The Defender of the Nation: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Three Year Onslaught Against Insecurity.”

The conference, scheduled to hold in Abuja, is expected to bring together top government officials, security experts, policy makers, scholars, and stakeholders from across the country to deliberate on issues relating to national security, public safety, emergency management, and institutional resilience. The event will also serve as a platform for the official unveiling of the book which examines the security policies, operations, and strategic decisions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the past three years.

Organisers of the conference said the choice of the Federal Fire Service boss as keynote speaker was informed by the increasing recognition of fire and emergency services as vital components of national security architecture. According to the organisers, fire prevention, disaster response, and emergency preparedness have become central to the protection of lives, critical infrastructure, and national assets in a rapidly evolving security environment.

In his keynote address, Olumode is expected to highlight the strategic role of the fire service in safeguarding public institutions, industrial facilities, markets, airports, schools, and other critical national infrastructure against fire disasters and related emergencies. He is also expected to emphasise the importance of inter agency collaboration, public awareness, and modern firefighting capabilities in strengthening national resilience and internal security.

The conference and book presentation are expected to attract notable dignitaries from the military, paramilitary agencies, intelligence community, academia, civil society organisations, and the diplomatic corps. Analysts believe the gathering will provide an opportunity for robust discussions on contemporary security challenges and the need for integrated approaches to national protection and crisis management.

Observers have described the inclusion of the Federal Fire Service leadership at the conference as a reflection of the growing understanding that national security extends beyond conventional policing and military operations to include disaster management, emergency response, and the protection of critical infrastructure. The event is also expected to further spotlight the contributions of emergency service institutions to peace, stability, and national development in Nigeria.
