AEDC Strengthens Community Power Supply with Free Transformer Installation in Lugbe

Residents of a growing community in Lugbe, Abuja, have expressed deep appreciation to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company following the successful installation of a brand new transformer that will significantly improve power supply in the area.
For nearly three years, the community experienced persistent electricity challenges due to an overloaded transformer serving three neighbouring communities. This situation led to frequent outages and limited access to stable electricity, affecting both daily living and small scale economic activities.
In a bid to find a lasting solution, community members under newly elected leadership identified the provision of a dedicated transformer as a top priority. Initial plans to self fund the project proved unrealistic due to the high cost, estimated at over thirty five million naira for procurement, accessories, and installation.
Guided by regulatory provisions of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, which places the responsibility of providing electricity infrastructure on distribution companies, the community formally submitted a request to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company in January 2026.
In a clear demonstration of responsiveness and commitment to service delivery, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company processed the request and within less than four months delivered and installed a brand new 500KVA transformer with all necessary accessories at no cost to the community.
This intervention represents a major milestone for the residents, who can now look forward to more stable and reliable electricity supply. It also reflects the positive impact of ongoing reforms in the power sector driven by collaboration between government institutions and service providers.
Members of the community have commended the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company for its professionalism, transparency, and adherence to due process, noting that the achievement highlights the importance of engaging public institutions through the proper channels.
The development also aligns with broader efforts by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen electricity infrastructure and improve service delivery across the country.
Residents described the project as a turning point for the community and a clear example of how effective governance and active civic engagement can deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
God bless the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company
God bless the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria
