NSCDC Pledges Support for Credible Elections, Emphasizes Rule of Law and Inter-Agency Collaboration

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, the rule of law, and effective inter-agency collaboration in ensuring election security across Nigeria.
This was stated by the Commandant General of NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, during his goodwill message at the 2nd Annual Lecture of the Alumni Association of the National Institute for Security Studies, themed “Credible Elections and National Security in Nigeria,” held at the NAF Conference Centre.
Professor Audi described the NSCDC as a reliable pillar in election security, working in support of other security agencies to prevent electoral violence, enhance intelligence sharing, and maintain peace before, during, and after elections. He stressed that synergy among security agencies is crucial to achieving a safe and orderly electoral environment.
Highlighting the role of citizens, he noted that the success of any election depends not only on security agencies but also on active public participation. He urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and cooperative, emphasizing that public support is vital for upholding electoral integrity.
The Commandant General also acknowledged the Judiciary’s role in sustaining electoral credibility, stating that confidence in legal institutions reinforces fairness, accountability, and trust in democratic outcomes. He added that credible elections underpin democratic stability, national unity, and sustainable development, noting that a secure and transparent process strengthens governance and deepens public confidence in democratic institutions.
The lecture was chaired by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, and delivered by former Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Mike Igini. The Alumni Association, led by Barrister Mike Ejiofor, brought together stakeholders from the security sector, Judiciary, academia, and civil society, creating a platform for dialogue on improving electoral integrity and national security.
Professor Audi concluded by reaffirming the NSCDC’s readiness to continue working with sister agencies and the public to safeguard lives and critical national assets, ensuring the successful conduct of free, fair, and credible elections nationwide.
