Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested two suspected gunrunners and recovered 444 rounds of ammunition during a routine stop-and-search operation in Wukari.
The operation, carried out on March 19, 2026, by personnel deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari, led to the interception of two suspects travelling on a motorcycle along the Wukari–Ikyaior Road. The suspects were identified as Wisdom Soomga, 32, from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, and Elisha Danladi, 38, a native of Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
A search conducted on the suspects resulted in the recovery of 444 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Other items found in their possession include ₦29,200 in cash, two mobile phones, ATM cards, charms, personal effects, and the motorcycle used for transportation.
The suspects and the recovered exhibits are currently in military custody, pending further investigation to determine the source and intended use of the ammunition.
Reacting to the development, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, Brig.-Gen. Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their alertness and swift action, in line with the directives of the Chief of Army Staff to decisively tackle criminal activities and strengthen security in Taraba State.
He urged the troops to sustain the tempo of operations and remain committed to eliminating all forms of criminality within the area. The commander also reassured law-abiding residents of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.
Akaliro further called on members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime.
He also reiterated his commitment to a strong reward and disciplinary system, noting that personnel who display professionalism, dedication, and courage in the line of duty will be duly recognised and rewarded.
