Insecurity: Nigerian Army engages stakeholders to tackle criminality in Plateau

The Headquarters 3 Division Nigerian Army and Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) Friday held a stakeholders’ meeting with community leaders from Fann District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The meeting aimed to address the spate of criminalities, including arms proliferation and cattle rustling, in the area.

Abdusalami Abubakar, a Major General, Commander, Operation SAFE HAVEN/General Officer Commanding 3 Division, expressed displeasure over the continuous acts of violence and criminalities in Fann District, despite efforts to checkmate the trend.

He emphasised that the criminals perpetrating the violence and criminalities hibernate within the communities and are well-known to community members.

The Commander implored all to learn to forgive one another and avoid rancour, advising them to always seek peaceful resolution to crises.

The GOC further said ” there is the negative impact of criminal activities on the stability and security of the district. These criminals were perpetrating these acts for their personal interest and not for the interest of the community. The criminals attempt to give ethno- religious colorations to security situation in the area to incite people to create a favourable condition for their selfish agenda to thrive.”

I implore all to learn to forgive one another of real or perceived grievances, avoid rancour and also advise your wards to always seek peaceful resolution to crisis and follow established procedure to address your grievances”.

Gwom Rwei of Gwol and the Gwom Rwei of Fan traditional leaders acknowledged that the communities have not done enough to guide their children with good morals and promised to fish out the perpetrators of criminalities.

In a statement by Aliyu Danja, a Major and acting deputy director Army Public Relations, 3 Division Nigerian Army, said the stakeholders’ meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all participants to intensify efforts in combating the criminal elements responsible for perpetrating violence in the area.

Solomon Dalyop, a loyal and President of the Berom Youth Moulder Association, appreciated the efforts of the military and promised to work with youths to support the efforts of troops and other security agencies.

The meeting was a significant step towards addressing the security concerns in Fann District and promoting lasting peace in the area.
