The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Sokoto State Command, has deployed 1,400 officers and men across the state to ensure adequate security before, during, and after the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr (Sallah) celebrations.
The deployment, which is in anticipation of increased movement of people into Sokoto State during the festive period, is aimed at denying criminal elements any opportunity to operate. The action is in line with the directive of the Commandant General of the Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, as part of nationwide efforts to guarantee a peaceful and crime-free celebration.
The State Commandant, E.A. Ajayi, said personnel have been strategically positioned across critical locations, including worship centres, markets, motor parks, recreational facilities, and other critical national assets and infrastructure to ensure maximum security coverage.
He further directed Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to optimise personnel deployment within their respective jurisdictions, with emphasis on intelligence gathering, community engagement, and heightened vigilance throughout the period. He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining law and order across the state.
In response to concerns over security during the festive period, the Commandant urged residents to remain vigilant, noting that criminals often exploit periods of increased social activities. “As we approach the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, it is imperative that we collectively prioritise our safety and security. Criminal elements often take advantage of increased travel and gatherings, and we must not allow them succeed,” he said.
He advised residents to secure their homes when travelling, remain alert in crowded areas, promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies, supervise young persons, and exercise caution while travelling. He also urged the public to celebrate responsibly, verify the identity of individuals claiming to be security personnel, and cooperate with officers at checkpoints.
While extending goodwill messages to Muslim faithful, the Commandant called on residents to uphold the values of peace, unity, tolerance, and compassion imbibed during Ramadan. He assured that officers and men of the Command remain fully mobilised to ensure a safe, peaceful, and hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration across Sokoto State.
