The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, has confirmed a series of suicide bomb explosions that occurred in Maiduguri, Borno State, at about 7:05 p.m. on Monday, 16 March 2026.
According to initial reports, suspected Boko Haram terrorists detonated improvised explosive devices at three separate locations within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, triggering panic among residents and raising fresh security concerns.
In response, troops of Operation HADIN KAI, working in close coordination with the Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and other security agencies, swiftly moved to secure the affected areas. The locations were immediately cordoned off to prevent further attacks and to facilitate emergency operations.
Emergency response teams, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), acted promptly to evacuate casualties from the blast scenes. Victims were transported to key medical facilities, including the General Hospital Maiduguri, the State Specialist Hospital Maiduguri, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where they are currently receiving urgent medical attention.
Medical personnel at the various hospitals are working tirelessly to stabilize the injured, while efforts are ongoing to account for all victims and assess the full extent of the damage caused by the explosions.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and report any suspicious movements to security agencies, as operations continue to ensure the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
