The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Canada in a renewed push to transform the nation’s mining sector.
Alake stated that the partnership will focus on deepening ongoing mining reforms, attracting increased foreign direct investment, formalising artisanal and small scale mining activities, and accelerating the transfer of modern technology to improve productivity and environmental sustainability.
He explained that enhanced collaboration with Canada, globally recognised for its expertise in mining governance, regulation, and innovation, will provide Nigeria with valuable technical support and institutional capacity building opportunities.
To ensure that these commitments translate into measurable and time bound outcomes, both countries have agreed to establish a joint working group. The group will drive priority initiatives, coordinate technical engagements, and fast track the implementation of agreed reforms.
The Minister emphasised that the strengthened partnership aligns with the Federal Government’s broader strategy to reposition Nigeria’s solid minerals sector as a major contributor to economic diversification, job creation, and sustainable national development.
