Oyo Police Arrest Man Found With Suspected Human Remains

The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 20-year-old man identified as Garuba Aminu for the unlawful possession of a suspected human body part.

The incident occurred on February 20, 2026, around 8:00 a.m. in the Commercial Oroki area of Oyo. The suspect, posing as a waste collector, drew suspicion from vigilant members of the community due to his unusual behavior and movements.

Residents quickly intervened and conducted a search, discovering a cut lower right leg, believed to be human, concealed in a large sack filled with discarded plastic bottles. Upon receiving the report, a joint police patrol team, working with other security partners, arrived at the scene. They dispersed an angry crowd intent on harming the suspect and secured the suspected human part for forensic examination and further investigation.

The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a detailed and discreet inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the case. The Police Command expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for his continuous guidance and leadership, which have strengthened community policing and proactive crime prevention nationwide.

The command also praised the alertness and prompt action of the local residents, emphasizing the critical role of community participation in detecting and preventing criminal activities.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity to the nearest police station, and avoid taking the law into their own hands, as mob actions are illegal and may hinder justice.

The Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to protecting lives and property and promised to provide further updates as the investigation unfolds.
