Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), paid his maiden operational visit to the Headquarters Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in Zamfara State, where he was received by the Theatre Commander, Maj. Gen. W.B. Idris, alongside other senior military officers. The visit underscored the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to strengthening frontline security operations across the North-West.
The operational tour came shortly after the commissioning of Armoured Personnel Carriers and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles procured by the Zamfara State Government to reinforce ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the theatre. The newly acquired assets are expected to significantly improve operational effectiveness.
According to military authorities, the platforms will enhance troop mobility, intelligence gathering, surveillance, reconnaissance, and rapid response capabilities against armed groups operating in the region. The development is seen as a major boost to joint military operations aimed at restoring peace.
During his address, Gen. Musa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s resolve to continue equipping troops with modern combat enablers and advanced technology to tackle evolving security threats. He commended officers and men of the Armed Forces for their resilience, sacrifice, and professionalism in the face of persistent challenges.
In his remarks, Theatre Commander Maj. Gen. Idris expressed appreciation for the sustained support from both the Federal and Zamfara State Governments. He noted that the additional operational assets would accelerate ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace, stability, and security across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
