Commandant Conducts Inspection Tour Ahead of Argungu Fishing Festival


The State Commandant, Commandant K. A. Alkamawa, on Tuesday, 10th February 2026, carried out an on-the-spot assessment visit to Argungu as part of preparations for the forthcoming Argungu Fishing Festival. The festival is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, 11th February 2026, and conclude on Saturday, 14th February 2026.
During the visit, the Commandant inspected major venues designated for the festival’s activities. The locations visited included Filin Polo, the Fishing Village where the main fishing competition will be held, the Cultural Dance Arena, Filin Sukuwa Street (Agricultural Show Ground), Matan Fada, Mala—venue for the Kabawa cultural display—and the historic Kanta Museum.
The inspection was aimed at evaluating the security arrangements, logistical coordination, and overall level of preparedness at the various venues. The Commandant emphasized the need for adequate deployment and proactive measures to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and successful festival.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout the event, assuring residents and visitors of robust security coverage before, during, and after the festival.
Following the tour of Argungu, the Commandant proceeded to Birnin Kebbi to continue strategic meetings with the management cadre of the Command as part of ongoing operational planning.
