The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has commenced a series of community engagement programmes across its 50 divisional formations to reinforce the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) in the state.
The initiative is designed to actively involve key stakeholders and members of the public at the grassroots level in discussions aimed at curbing the persistent vandalism of vital infrastructure, including fibre optic and telecommunication cables, power transformers, pipelines, manholes, rail sleepers, water channels, bridges, and other public utilities.
According to the Command, the engagements are structured to encourage community participation, information sharing, and collective responsibility in safeguarding national assets, with the ultimate goal of drastically reducing infrastructure-related crimes in the new year.
The Badagry Division hosted the first community engagement session under the programme, in line with the directive of the Lagos State Commandant, Mr Adedotun Keshinro. The event marked the official kickoff of the Command’s renewed community-based approach to asset protection.
The Commandant emphasized that the initiative aligns with the NSCDC’s commitment to deploying non-kinetic strategies to address security challenges, de-escalate criminal activities, and foster sustainable solutions through collaboration with host communities.
The NSCDC Lagos Command reaffirmed its resolve to work closely with residents, traditional leaders, and relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety and protection of critical infrastructure essential to the social and economic wellbeing of Lagos State.
