The Acting Area Controller, Kwara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Najeem Akanmu Ogundeyi, has showcased intercepted and seized consignments of prohibited and improperly imported goods to members of the media and key stakeholders. The presentation took place shortly after a press briefing highlighting seizures recorded by the Command within less than one month of his assumption of office.
Items displayed included 389 bales of second-hand clothing, 108 sacks of used bags, 6,500 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 450 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each), 170 pieces of used tyres, and three vehicles, among them a new Toyota Land Cruiser VX 2025 model.
Speaking during the briefing, Comptroller Ogundeyi attributed the early success to renewed operational strategies, improved intelligence gathering, and the commitment of officers and men of the Command to enforce existing customs laws without compromise. He stressed that smuggling poses serious threats to the economy, public health, and national security.
He further warned smugglers and economic saboteurs to desist from illegal activities, noting that the Command would sustain its zero-tolerance stance against smuggling. The Acting Area Controller also called on members of the public to support the Nigeria Customs Service by providing credible information and complying with import and export regulations in the interest of national development.
