NSCDC Appoints Geraldine Abetianbe as Akwa Ibom State Commandant, Pledges Effective Security Services


The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akwa Ibom State Command, has announced the assumption of duty of Commandant Geraldine Sistus Abetianbe as the new State Commandant. She succeeds Commandant Bashar Kefas Hussaini, who recently retired after 35 years of meritorious service.
The formal handing-over and taking-over ceremony took place at the State Command Headquarters in Uyo on Friday, December 26, 2025.
Commandant Abetianbe brings to her new role over two decades of extensive operational and administrative experience, with a record of notable achievements across various assignments. She has served as Divisional Officer in several Local Government Areas across three states, Area Commander, Head of Technical Services, and pioneer Commander of the Eastern Railway District, Enugu. The district covered Abia, Rivers, Ebonyi, and Enugu States, where she recorded outstanding performance.
The new State Commandant holds a Bachelor of Agriculture degree from the University of Calabar and has attended several professional courses locally and internationally. These include courses on Artificial Intelligence in Security Management and advanced intelligence gathering and analysis techniques.
Speaking shortly after assuming office, Commandant Abetianbe declared zero tolerance for vandalism of critical national assets in Akwa Ibom State. She affirmed her commitment to leading NSCDC operations in line with the Corps’ core mandates, stressing professionalism, accountability, and proactive engagement.
She added that her leadership would emphasize strong collaboration with sister security agencies, effective deployment of technology, and intelligence-driven operations to enhance security across the state.
According to her, she has been deployed by the Commandant General of NSCDC, Prof. A. A. Audi, to deliver the mandates of the Corps by working closely with the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, and other security agencies. She assured that her goal is to ensure Akwa Ibom State remains safe for business, tourism, and socio-economic activities, pledging total commitment to the task.
