The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Gombe State Command, has successfully contained a fire incident involving a fuel tanker that ignited while discharging diesel at the Rain Oil Filling Station in Tumfure, Gombe State.
The incident was promptly reported to the Service, and firefighters were immediately mobilised to the scene. Through swift, coordinated and professional intervention, the fire was brought under control, preventing the tanker from being completely engulfed and averting a potentially catastrophic explosion.
The affected area is a highly sensitive commercial zone, located close to other filling stations, major business activities and the NNPC Depot. The rapid response of the Federal Fire Service prevented a possible chain reaction and protected properties estimated at over Five Hundred Million Naira (₦500 million).
No casualty or loss of life was recorded during the incident.
The Federal Fire Service reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property across the country. The Service also urges operators of petroleum facilities to strictly comply with established safety procedures, particularly during the discharge of petroleum products.
The Service commends the Nigeria Police Force, Tumfure Division, and the Department of State Services (DSS) for providing adequate security support, which enabled firefighters to carry out their duties effectively.
