The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Cross River State Command, has assured residents and visitors of a peaceful and hitch-free Christmas celebration across the state. The State Commandant, Okarazu C.E., gave the assurance in a Christmas goodwill message to Governor Senator Prince Bassey Otu, the state government, and the people of Cross River State.
Commandant Okarazu urged residents to embrace the core values of Christmas—love, peace, and sacrifice—while enjoying the festive season. He noted that the Command has put comprehensive security measures in place to protect lives and property, especially during major celebrations such as the Calabar Carnival.
According to him, NSCDC officers have been deployed to strategic locations across the state, including streets, worship centres, and major event venues, to ensure that the festivities are not disrupted. He stressed that the safety of residents and visitors remains the Command’s top priority throughout the season.
The Commandant also highlighted recent successes recorded by the NSCDC in recovering vandalised public assets, calling on the public to see security as a collective responsibility. He urged citizens to protect public utilities and support security agencies with timely and useful information to curb vandalism and other criminal activities.
He further disclosed that all specialised units of the Command, including the Counter-Terrorism Unit and the Anti-Vandal Squad, are on high alert to manage crowd control and prevent crime. Okarazu assured residents and visitors that the NSCDC would remain fully committed to safeguarding the state during the Christmas celebrations and into the New Year.
