Federal Fire Service Wins Inaugural CGF Cup as Controller General Olumode Celebrates 100 Days in Office

The maiden edition of the Controller General’s Cup (CGF Cup) was held on 22nd November 2025 at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja, marking the first 100 days in office of the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, Olumode assumed office on 14th August 2025 following his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The competition featured four agencies under the Federal Ministry of Interior, namely: the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), and the Federal Fire Service (FFS). The opening match between the FFS and NIS did not hold due to the absence of the NIS team, resulting in an automatic award of three points and three goals to the Fire Service team.

In another tightly contested fixture, the NSCDC and NCoS played to a goalless draw, leading to a penalty shootout in which the Civil Defence team triumphed 4–2 to secure their place in the final.

The grand finale drew an enthusiastic crowd that included the Controller General, DCG A.M. Tambari, representatives of allied agencies, and sports enthusiasts. The Federal Fire Service clinched the championship with a 1–0 victory, thanks to a decisive goal by Gideon Musa following a foul committed against Team Fire.

CG Olumode later presented gold, silver, and bronze medals, along with the championship trophy, officially declaring the Federal Fire Service winners of the inaugural CGF Cup. He expressed heartfelt appreciation to all participating agencies and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting sports development, enhancing staff welfare, and improving service delivery nationwide.

The National Public Relations Officer, DCF Paul Abraham, praised the athletes for their discipline, teamwork, and exemplary sportsmanship. He noted that their outstanding performance brought pride to the Service and confirmed that the trophy would be formally presented to the Controller General at a later date as part of ongoing celebrations.
