The Nigerian Navy has once again demonstrated its rapid response capability and unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring safety at sea.
On Friday, 7 November 2025, personnel from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ibaka successfully rescued ten crew members from a distressed vessel, MV SEMA III, which was en route to Calabar from Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
Upon receiving a distress call at approximately 2000 hours, a naval gunboat equipped with a submersible pump was immediately dispatched to the scene. On arrival, the rescue team found the vessel taking in water and promptly evacuated all occupants — consisting of one Cameroonian, one Equatorial Guinean, and eight Nigerians.
The rescued crew members were safely transported to FOB Ibaka, where they were received, debriefed, and provided with medical and welfare support until Saturday, 8 November 2025.
The Master of MV SEMA III expressed profound appreciation to the Nigerian Navy for its timely intervention, professionalism, and dedication throughout the rescue operation.
This successful mission underscores the Nigerian Navy’s continued commitment under the leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Admiralty Medal), to ensuring maritime safety, protecting critical national assets, and promoting lawful and secure economic activities within Nigeria’s maritime domain.
