The Nigerian Army Resource Centre is considering the beneficial extent to which artificial intelligence can be deployed to safeguard national security.

Through leadership in an evolving world order programme, it has brought together military and paramilitary officers and other professionals in security to set boundaries for the deployment of AI in operations.

AI plays a crucial role in modern military operations.

It is applied in Autonomous Weapons and Weapons Targeting, Surveillance, Cyber Security and Autonomous Vehicles.

But with the benefits also comes the downside.

The Nigerian Army Resource Centre is considering ethical issues, including setting boundaries for the use of AI for security purposes.

Leadership in an evolving world order, one of the programmes of the centre, provides a platform for discussing the merits and demerits of AI.

The Nigerian armed forces understand that although AI presents lots of benefits to its operations, it cannot replace human intelligence.
