The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ebonyi State Command Dr Elijah Etim Willie says he does not sleep with his back fully on the ground. This was to underscore the enormity of the challenges facing him as a security Commander in Ebonyi State.
Commandant Willie who welcomed the newly deployed Commanding Officer, 2 Women Battalion, Abakaliki Lt Col AKinwale Arogundade to his office during a courtesy visit alerted the commander that Ebonyi State was rife with internal security challenges.
He reiterated his conviction that Ebonyi State portrays a similitude of serenity but was in fact a bastion of internal conflicts.
According to him, the media conveys the impression that the State was the most peaceful one, whereas on daily basis, reports of people getting killed make headlines particularly in hotspots like Ivo, Izzi and Ohaukwu L G As.
He assured the new Commanding officer of synergy and sharing of intelligence. He asserted that the major contributor to the security threat in Nigeria was the inability of the security outfits to work as a team as was obtainable in foreign lands.
Commandant Willie noted that his Command enjoys a robust working relationship with the Army Cantonment Commander because Civil defence appears to be offshoot of the army which tailors after it in terms of discipline.
He equally expressed the belief that the commander’s coming would add value to security operations in the State.
Earlier Lt Col. Arogundade had appreciated Commandant Willie for receiving him in his office.
He said he came to key into the existing cordial relationship with the command and to advance the synergy already in place.
