Troops Neutralises Arms Courier, Seize 5 AK-47 Rifles in Kwara

Troops of 22 Armoured Brigade, under Operation Park Strike V and deployed at Patrol Base Bukungi, have neutralised an arms courier and recovered a cache of weapons during a snap check along the Share–Gbugbu Road in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State. The operation, carried out on Thursday, 25 September 2025, followed credible intelligence on the movement of illicit arms.

Acting on the intelligence, troops intercepted a Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle with registration number Bayelsa SAG-133 XA. The driver attempted to flee but was swiftly neutralised. A search of the vehicle uncovered five AK-47 rifles and three magazines hidden in a charcoal sack. Earlier reports had indicated that the courier was moving the weapons from Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, which enabled the troops to track and intercept him around 8:30 a.m. in Edu LGA.

Commending the troops for their professionalism, the Commander, 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, praised their resilience and urged them to sustain the momentum. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s determination to deny criminal elements freedom of action within its area of responsibility, while assuring law-abiding residents of Kwara State and neighbouring communities of continued safety.

Brigadier General Barkins further appealed to the public to provide timely and reliable information to security agencies, stressing that such cooperation is essential to defeating security threats. He reiterated that the Nigerian Army remains steadfast in its constitutional mandate to defend the nation’s territorial integrity and will continue to work tirelessly to eliminate all forms of criminality.
