The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Sokoto State Command, under the leadership of Commandant E. A. Ajayi, has announced plans to host a stakeholders’ engagement as part of activities marking the 2025 International Day of Peace.
The event, which comes up on Monday, 22nd September, 2025, will be held under the theme “Act Now for a Peaceful World.” Commandant Ajayi explained that the initiative is aimed at fostering peace, promoting unity, and strengthening harmony between farmers and herders in Sokoto State.
As part of the commemoration, there will be a peace walk beginning from the Sokoto Command Headquarters at 7:00 a.m., followed by a lecture and stakeholders’ dialogue at the NSCDC Conference Hall by noon. The event is expected to draw the participation of dignitaries, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders.
Ajayi stressed that the programme is a deliberate effort to reduce tension, resolve disputes, and promote peaceful coexistence across communities in the state. He urged the people of Sokoto to shun violence and embrace tolerance, dialogue, and mutual understanding as sustainable means of building lasting peace.
The Commandant further emphasized that peace and stability can only be achieved through strategic collaboration among stakeholders, noting that collective efforts are crucial in addressing the root causes of the farmers-herders conflict. He reiterated the Corps’ unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives, promoting social stability, and consolidating peace in Sokoto State and the country at large.
