Isiaka Mustapha: A Distinguished Presence in Nigerian Journalism

With a journalism career that spans more than three decades, Isiaka Mustapha has established himself as a formidable voice within Nigeria’s vibrant media landscape. A gifted storyteller and incisive commentator, he holds a B.Sc. in Criminology and Security Studies, as well as a diploma from the prestigious Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ). He has also attended several professional courses, further strengthening his expertise and authority in the field.

Mustapha’s journey into journalism began in 1991 when he joined the Daily Times as a cub reporter. Not long after, he moved to Punch Newspaper, where he worked in both the Communication Room and the Newsroom until 1993. From those early days, he steadily advanced through the ranks, earning a reputation for thorough reporting, professional integrity, and deep analytical insight.

Over the years, he has lent his editorial prowess to some of Nigeria’s leading newspapers and magazines, holding various key roles, including Society Reporter at Fame Weekly, Senior Political Correspondent at Today’s Choice, Northern Bureau Chief at City People Magazine, Senior Correspondent (Abuja Bureau), The NEWS/TEMPO/PM NEWS, Society Editor at Global Magazine, Deputy Editor at Leadership Newspaer, and Publisher of Press Gallery.

Today, Isiaka Mustapha is the Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief of People’s Security Monitor, a niche publication dedicated to issues of national security, civil protection, and governance.

A respected figure in the field, Mustapha is an active member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and is affiliated with the International Organisation of Journalists, formerly based in Czechoslovakia.

Through his work, he has made impactful contributions to the growth of security journalism in Nigeria, and honoured with several awards. His dedication to mentoring emerging journalists and fostering informed dialogue around justice, safety, and institutional responsibility continues to shape the field.
