The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested five suspects in connection with various criminal offences committed within Enugu metropolis over the past week.
State Commandant Elijah Willie disclosed this to journalists on Friday in Enugu, noting that the suspects were apprehended for offences ranging from vandalism of public infrastructure to robbery and assault on security personnel.
According to him, operatives on routine patrol arrested two male suspects on August 19 and 20 for allegedly vandalising armoured cables connected to street lamps. One suspect was picked up around Nkpokiti Roundabout at about 8 p.m., while the second was arrested on Nza Street.
Recovered from them was a bag containing several incriminating items, including an iron rod believed to have been used in the act.
Willie added that on August 22 at about 1:30 a.m., another suspect was arrested while attempting to vandalise galvanised street poles.
He assured residents that the Corps remains committed to protecting public assets and working with other security agencies to rid Enugu of criminal elements.
