Commandant Jibrin Idris, State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Gombe State Command, received a working courtesy visit from the Director of the Centre for Gender Studies, Gombe State University (GSU), Dr. Aishatu Abubakar Kumo.
During the visit, Dr. Aishatu informed the Commandant of the Centre’s objective to seek partnership with NSCDC in the state, focusing on collaborative efforts to promote gender equality and enhance security. She highlighted the activities of the newly established University Gender Centre, the first of its kind in the North East, which will soon commence certified gender studies. This initiative aims to provide a platform for research, training, and advocacy on gender issues.
In response, Commandant
Idris welcomed and commended the Director for the visit, promising more collaboration and partnership with the Centre. He emphasized the importance of such partnerships in enhancing the Command’s capacity to address security challenges while promoting inclusivity and gender sensitivity.
The State Commandant also highlighted the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi’s efforts in ensuring gender balance and inclusiveness in the Corps. He specifically lauded the launching of the Gender Policy document by the Commandant General, which serves as a guideline for operations for the gender units across all Commands in the federation. This document underscores the Corps’ commitment to mainstreaming gender considerations in its operations and policies.
CC, Idris reiterated the Command’s commitment to security and safety of lives and property in the state, emphasizing that the partnership with the Centre for Gender Studies will further enhance the Command’s ability to deliver on its mandate. He assured that the Command will continue to work towards creating a secure environment that promotes the well-being and empowerment of all citizens.
