Tragedy struck the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State as one of its officers, Superintendent of Corps (SC) Bashir Adamu Jibril, was brutally killed by a mob while on duty at Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa Local Government Area.
According to official sources from the Jigawa State Command, the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Monday when SC Jibril, attached to the Intelligence and Investigation Department, successfully arrested a suspected criminal. The arrest reportedly incited a violent reaction from a group of hoodlums who mobilized and launched an attack in an apparent attempt to obstruct justice.
Eyewitnesses say the mob, armed with cutlasses, sticks, and other locally fabricated weapons, descended on the officer, inflicting fatal injuries. He was rushed to the Dutse General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
In a swift response, the NSCDC apprehended the suspected ringleader behind the attack. Investigations are currently underway to identify and bring to justice other individuals involved, many of whom are still at large.
The Jigawa NSCDC Command condemned the incident in strong terms, describing it as a senseless act of jungle justice and a direct affront to law enforcement. The Command assured the public that no effort will be spared in ensuring that all those responsible are prosecuted.
“The loss of SC Bashir Adamu Jibril is deeply painful,” the statement read. “He was a courageous and disciplined officer who served with commitment and honour. His death is a significant blow not only to the Corps but also to the peace and security of Jigawa State.”
Prayers were offered for the repose of his soul, with the Command expressing hope that Almighty Allah grants him forgiveness and eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
