The Nigerian Army has made significant strides in its ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and other emerging security threats across the country.
Recent coordinated operations led to the neutralisation of two terrorists, the arrest of 11 suspects, the voluntary surrender of two relatives of insurgents, and the recovery of weapons and rustled livestock.
Troops from the 8 Division Garrison, stationed at Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Tsamaye and Mai Lalle, within Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, engaged armed militants in a fierce gun battle. During the encounter, two terrorists were neutralised while others fled the area, abandoning their positions.
At the scene, troops recovered three AK-47 rifles and a motorcycle, thereby further crippling the operational capability of the retreating insurgents.
In the North East, the sustained tempo of military operations continues to yield results. In Bama, Borno State, two family members of known terrorists—a woman and a child voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 202 Battalion.
Preliminary investigations revealed they had escaped from the CHURCHUR axis, highlighting the mounting pressure on terrorist enclaves in the region.
