Heighten Sensitivity To Threats, Plateau NSCDC Commandant, Ishaku Musa Tells Frontline Officers

The Plateau State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Ishaku Musa, has charged officers and men of the corps to sustain a high level of vigilance and deepen their sensitivity to happenings within their operational environments, in light of the evolving security challenges in the state and the ntion at large.

Addressing personnel at the command headquarters in Jos during a routine security briefing and operational review session, Commandant Musa stressed that the times demanded heightened intelligence gathering, inter-agency synergy, and an unwavering commitment to proactive security response.

“We are operating in a dynamic and fragile security environment where non-state actors are constantly devising new means to undermine public safety. I am calling on every operative of the NSCDC in Plateau State to sustain your vigilance, be more sensitive to your environment, and respond swiftly to credible intelligence,” he said.

He reiterated that the protection of critical national assets, support for community-based security structures, and maintenance of civil order remain top priorities for the Corps under his leadership. Musa emphasized that failure was not an option in a state like Plateau, which has endured years of communal conflict, banditry, and farmer-herder clashes.

Commandant Musa highlighted recent operational successes, including the interception of suspected vandals along the Barkin Ladi–Riyom axis and the dismantling of an illegal mining syndicate in Wase Local Government Area in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups. According to him, these achievements were possible due to the alertness and dedication of personnel in the field.

He added: “You must know your terrain. Familiarize yourself with the people. Build community trust. It is only through grassroots-level intelligence and visible presence that we can prevent attacks, not just react after the damage is done.”

“We must work smarter and faster than criminal elements,” he said. “The communities are looking up to us, and we must not betray that trust.”

Residents in several parts of Plateau State have recently reported increased patrols and surveillance activities by the NSCDC, especially in areas prone to attacks. Civil society organizations and traditional rulers have lauded the Corps’ renewed grassroots engagement strategy, which includes townhall meetings, early warning systems, and youth security volunteers.

While encouraging the operatives not to relent, Commandant Musa also called on citizens to play active roles in security. “Security is everybody’s business,” he concluded. “We cannot do it alone. We need credible information, cooperation, and patience from the public.”
