The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Friday inaugurated a new divisional outpost at Leisure Court Estate in Lugbe, aimed at expanding the Corps’ operational footprint and enhancing emergency response capabilities across the territory.
This latest facility, generously donated by Leisure Court Ltd a real estate development company marks the third divisional outpost unveiled under the leadership of FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu. Similar installations have previously been established in Bwari and Kwali.
According to Odumosu, the Lugbe outpost is a deliberate step toward decentralising security operations and positioning the Corps to better serve Abuja’s rapidly expanding suburban communities. He described the commissioning not merely as the opening of a new structure, but as a renewed commitment to creating a safer environment for all residents of the FCT.
“With urban growth and rising population comes increased security complexity,” he noted. “We are facing emerging threats that demand innovative and forward-looking approaches. This outpost is strategically located to provide rapid response to incidents, facilitate community engagement, and strengthen our presence in this corridor.”
The outpost is expected to function as a local hub for surveillance, crime detection, and neighbourhood watch activities. It will also provide a platform for community collaboration and public sensitisation on security issues.
Odumosu reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to proactive, community-based security strategies, emphasising that the Corps is embedding its operations directly within vulnerable and high-growth areas to respond more efficiently to threats.
“Our approach is not just to react to crimes but to work with communities to prevent them,” he said. “Through consistent awareness campaigns and ongoing dialogue with residents and local stakeholders, we aim to build a bond of trust and shared responsibility.”
He lauded the dedication of his officers and called on those posted to the new outpost to uphold the Corps’ values of professionalism, integrity, and service to humanity.
“Our strength lies not only in our response capabilities but in our ability to empower citizens to play active roles in securing their environments,” he added.
Odumosu also used the opportunity to appeal for closer collaboration between the NSCDC, residents, community leaders, and other security agencies.
“As we chart a new course in our security efforts, I invite every stakeholder to join hands with us. Let us build a community where safety is guaranteed, and progress is unimpeded,” he said.
He concluded by reaffirming the Corps’ dedication to national service, stating that the Lugbe outpost would serve as a beacon of hope, vigilance, and partnership for the entire community.
