The Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has issued a stern warning to vandals targeting public infrastructure, declaring that the state is no longer a safe haven for such criminal activities.
Speaking in Jos, Commandant Ishaku Musa said his team has intensified efforts to track down and prosecute individuals involved in the destruction of public utilities, including electrical installations, water pipelines, and road infrastructure.
“We are sending a strong message to vandals: Plateau is no longer a soft spot. Anyone caught sabotaging public property will face the full wrath of the law,” he stated.
Musa said recent operations led by the Corps have resulted in multiple arrests, with suspects already facing prosecution. He added that surveillance and community-based intelligence gathering have been stepped up to prevent further acts of vandalism.
According to the Commandant, the NSCDC remains committed to protecting critical infrastructure and has received strong support from local communities, who are also fed up with the impact of the destruction.
“Public utilities are lifelines for our people. We cannot allow a few selfish individuals to plunge entire communities into hardship,” he said.
Residents have applauded the renewed efforts, calling on the government to impose stricter penalties and ensure consistent enforcement to deter future vandalism.
