On Saturday 21 June 2025, the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla embarked on a one-day operational visit to Borno state. His first stop was at the Naval Base Lake Chad (NBLC) where he commended the Nigerian Navy (NN) personnel deployed there for their bravery and resilience on the front lines of the war against Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists. Recall that in the early hours of Wednesday 18 June 2025, the NN personnel effectively repelled an attack by some BHT/ISWAP terrorists neutralising many of them in the process while several others were severely injured. The CNS stated that henceforth the Navy will take the fight to the terrorists and decimate their hideouts on the fringes of the Lake Chad. Thereafter, the CNS paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of Borno State, His Excellency Professor Babagan Umara Zulum CON mni. The CNS assured the Governor that the NN will redouble its efforts towards securing the Lake Chad area by deploying more men and equipment to NBLC. He also directed the immediate deployment of a Task Force to commence clearing of the water ways using the Swamp Buggies provided by the Governor.

In response the Governor commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria for prioritising the security of Borno State and environs. In particular, he praised the NN personnel of NBLC who he described as resilient in the fight against the terrorists. Finally, the Governor reiterated his commitment to work closely with all security agencies towards defeating the menace of terrorism in the state.

Thereafter, the CNS visited all the injured personnel who were undergoing treatment. He empathised with them and gave assurance that every possible effort will be made to give them quality health care. The CNS visit was a morale booster to the men in the frontlines. The excitement of the men was palpable and effusive. The CNS was accompanied by the Chief of Operations, Rear Admiral Olusegun Ferriera, the Chief of Logistics, Rear Admiral OK Oluwagbire and the Navy Secretary, Rear Admiral Patrick Nwatu.
