COMMANDER’S VISIT YIELDS RESULTS: 6 BRIGADE TROOPS NEUTRALIZE BANDIT, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE IN KARIM LAMIDO

In line with the ongoing operational efforts to rid Taraba State of criminal elements and restore peace in troubled areas, troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have recorded a significant success following a recent strategic operational visit by the Commander 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa to Bandawa community in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

The Commander, during the visit, emphasized the need for increased military presence and proactive operations within the general area. Acting swiftly on this directive, troops on a fighting patrol along the Bandawa–Karim Lamido road made contact with suspected bandits attempting to disrupt the peace of the area. In the brief but fierce encounter, troops gallantly engaged the criminals, neutralizing one of the bandits and successfully recovering one AK-47 rifle and thirty-nine (39) rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

This operation is a testament to the Brigade’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and ensuring that criminal elements find no safe haven within Taraba State. Troops have since continued aggressive patrols and dominance operations within the general area to maintain peace and reassure residents of their safety.

In a related development, and in response to tensions between locals in Kashimbila of Takum LGA, Taraba State and Jato Aka of Kwande LGA, Benue State, which had led to attacks on motorists along the Kashimbila–Jato Aka road, a peace meeting was convened on 12 May 2025 at the palace of the Chief of Kashimbila, His Royal Highness Alhaji Zakeri Musa.

The security meeting, aimed at de-escalating tensions and ensuring the safety of road users, brought together key stakeholders including officers commanding and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) from the affected LGAs, youth leaders, and community representatives. At the conclusion of the meeting, both communities agreed to embrace peace and shun all forms of violence, pledging to work together for the safety and development of the region.

The 6 Brigade Nigerian Army urges all law-abiding citizens to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that will enhance the success of ongoing operations and peace efforts across Taraba State.
