In a meeting held at the force headquarters in Abuja, Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, emphasized the importance of citizens safeguarding their hard-earned money and properties, regardless of any intimidation tactics employed by police officers.
Egbetokun stressed his commitment to restoring trust between the police force and the public, citing the need for swift justice against officers found guilty of misconduct and the implementation of measures to prevent unprofessional behavior.
“Regrettably, there have been instances where some personnel have failed to uphold the integrity expected of them,” stated the IGP.
“It is imperative that officers, who are entrusted with high moral standards, do not betray the public’s trust.”
“I implore citizens to stand firm against coercion and refrain from unjustly parting with their assets,” he continued.
“While we are actively implementing internal reforms to address extortion and other misconduct, it is crucial for the public to collaborate with us.”
Egbetokun urged Nigerians to report any misconduct by police officers to the appropriate authorities and instructed senior officers to recommend personnel who demonstrate courage, integrity, and compassion.
