Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) of the Nigerian army have successfully repelled an attack by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on Malari police station in Borno State.
Security expert, Zagazola Makama, revealed that this incident occured on Wednesday, March 5, around 1a.m.
Makama noted that a distress call was sent to the northeast headquarters of the joint task force (JTF) regarding the attack on the station.
The security expert stated that, despite intense gunfire, soldiers from the 222 Battalion defended the police station from the terrorists, who had attempted to seize the police armoured personnel carrier (APC) for use against security forces in the future.
He said, “Upon receiving the information, the troops swiftly mobilized, engaged the terrorists, and successfully repelled the attack, allowing the police Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) to withdraw safely.”
Makama mentioned that the exact number of terrorist casualties is unclear, but blood was found along their retreat path.
He noted that no security forces were injured, although three tyres of the APC were damaged during the attack.
Makama also mentioned that the troops have retained control of the area and intend to carry out additional operations to locate and apprehend the attackers.
