Boko Haram bandits kidnap top Nigerian professor in Yobe state

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have abducted Professor Abubakar Eljuma, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Nigerian Army University, Biu, along with other passengers near Kamuya village in Yobe State.

The attack occurred while the professor was returning from a visit to Maiduguri. Sources revealed that he was among 30 candidates who had applied for the position of vice chancellor at the university.

A security source confirmed that on March 2, 2025, Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants ambushed travellers on the Damaturu-Biu Road, hijacking two Golf cars and a Borno Express bus.

While female passengers were reportedly released, male passengers, including Professor Eljuma, were taken hostage.

“We are requesting your prayers in this holy month of Ramadan for their quick release,” the security source told Daily Trust.
