The Commander of 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Opurum Timothy, has said that the most wanted bandit leader, Bello Turji, is a coward. He declared that Turji is currently on the run due to the military onslaught in Zamfara State.
Speaking after the Nigerian Army’s West African Social Activities, WASA, 2024 event held at the 1 Brigade Cantonment in Gusau, General Opurum reassured the military’s commitment to clearing bandits and restoring peace in Zamfara State and the Northwest region.
“The military tensions have forced Turji to abandon his foot soldiers due to the pressure we’ve mounted on him,” he said.
“The military operations have cleared many of them, and we will sustain the tensions by taking the fight directly to their dens,” General Opurum added.
The 1 Brigade Commander commended the people of Zamfara State for their support and cooperation, particularly through the provision of vital intelligence, which has led to remarkable successes.
He urged the military troops to remain resilient and steadfast in their mission, emphasizing that commitment and sacrifice are essential to achieving lasting peace.
Brigadier General Opurum assured Zamfara and other Northwest states that the military would continue to battle the terrorists until peace is restored in the zone.
DAILY POST reports that the West African Social Activities (WASA) program is a long-standing tradition of the Nigerian Army that serves as an avenue for troops and their families to relax, socialize, and celebrate the end of the year.
This year’s WASA event in Gusau was attended by top dignitaries, including representatives of the Zamfara State Governor and leaders of other security agencies, such as the Nigerian Air Force and paramilitary agencies.
